if you want to change your shortcut overlays, one way to do it is to use tweakUI for windows ([link])

i am sure there are other ways, but i don't know them. the box you see around the icons in the preview is not really there, but i wanted to show you the size of the overlay as it is on top of an icon (and the location of the overlay)
